The Association of Volleyball Professionals (AVP) is the longest-running professional beach volleyball tour in the United States. With a history spanning 40+ years, the AVP faced significant challenges. It did not have a player identification system, had no connection to the many independentamateur tournament directors throughout the country, and lacked a cohesive solution to transition players through a development pipeline. Additionally, the AVP Tour needed a solution to develop emerging markets and commercially prepare them for a full AVP Tour stop.
The solution resulted in the AVP’s first nationwide grassroots association, creating a unifying alliance between the independent tournament directors, amateur outdoor volleyball players and the professional tour. With hundreds of affiliated amateur event organizers under their belt, and over 2,000 amateur tournaments annually, the AVP had a robust player identification system and talent development pipeline which ultimately paved the way for future Olympians, Phil Dalhauser, Todd Rogers, Taryn Kloth, and Kristin Nuss, among other standouts. The membership-driven business model ensured sustainable operations, while the extensive tournament network created sponsorship inventory generating significant revenue. The large database of core players facilitated effective marketing campaigns for tour stops and local event organizers were tapped to prepare emerging markets for an official tour stop.
